basically the question i want to ask is whats a good and easy survival build for nightfall i am going for max survivor so it needs to work in most situations
I'll assume you've studied the general guides for survivor, such as never use pick up groups and play through with another character first. I think your team build is the most important factor to your survival. I've found using a MM to be very helpful in keeping opponents occupied with something other than you. Don't under estimate the power of a protection monk. I always use a hero set up for protection and a henchman for healing. Unlock good skills through PvP if you need to so you have access to them from the beginning. Be patient! The PvE build I've been using is in the Fun PvE builds post nerf thread.
I've done both motivation and spear/command through Istan and Kournan as a survivor. I don't think it matters a great deal there although I found spear/command easier. Just get max armor and be smart. I didn't find any of the quests to be a problem, but again be smart. The first place I consider dangerous is the Rilohn Refuge mission. I used mesmer secondary with my heros and took the mesmer henchman and found it easy with all the interrupts. If you're not confident, don't go for masters. The Grand Court of Sebelkeh and Jennur's Horde missions also pose some risk. Hex removal is very important at Sebelkeh. Jennur's Horde is really just a matter of extraordinary patience to get masters. You'll eventually end up running back and forth without your party as you have to plant it at the top of the stairs to hold off the margonites and then at the Harbinger of Nightfall. Make sure you use a team build that can hold their own defensively without you. Nundu Bay is also a bit dicey at the end due to cramped quarters. Lastly, there are places in the desolation where you fight as a wurm that you have to be careful to avoid taking on too many opponents at once. If you haven't previously fought as a wurm be extra careful as you discover their limitations. I've finished Ruins of Morah and those are the only encounters I found to be risky so far.
Get Olias as soon as you can. I eventually replaced him with Master of Whispers since he's required for some quests and mission. Set them up as minion masters. In Sebelkeh I used both. One planted on the altar with the protection monk to keep that from being captured while the rest of us took care of the rifts. I have Tahlkora as a protection monk with skills that I had unlocked previously and use Mhenlo as a healer.
Those missions were easier because I added offense and a bit of defense to the party. If you use motivation it will be harder for your party to hold their own without you. Use General Morgahn for the multiple paragon synergy when you gain him. I have him set up as motivation/spear.
I kept running out of patience and eventually rushed things so I'm giving legendary survivor a break for awhile. On the bright side, I have a character that can run though everything to ensure I have a safe strategy when I decide to do legendary survivor again or to do something different when it becomes tedious.
